Installing the device

The wires are neatly labeled. From left side there are a black (L) and a white (N) wire which is the input. On the right side there are three wires: black (fan), white (com) and blue (light). So one wire (black) goes to the fan, the other wire (blue) goes to the lights and both are connected to the com (white) wire.
The housing is quite large so it might be a challenge to find a suitable place to hide this. I was able to just stick it in a hole in the ceiling so it is just lying on the ceiling.

Connecting the device

To connect to the device you have to download the eWeLink app.  Now press the (+) in the app to add the device and power up the device. The device starts up in pairing mode if it is not already paired (see below).
To pair the RF remote, just press any key within 5 seconds of powering on and hear a beep that the pairing is complete.
You can reset the device by long pressing the button and hold for 5 seconds until you hear a short and a long beep. You can also do this on a paired remote by holding the Wifi pair button (lower right) for 5 seconds until you hear a short and a long beep.
With the two lower buttons you can also unpair the remote by holding the lower left button until you hear two short beeps.

Fan speeds

Fan speed can be set to three speeds: medium, high and low. This is achieved with current limiting through capacitors: the first gear (2.5μF) output current is 113mA (120V/60Hz) or 173mA(220V/50Hz); the second gear (2.5μF + 3μF) output current is 249mA(120V/60Hz ) or 456mA(220V/50Hz). The third gear is without current limiting. You can see the current limiting is different for the different Hz and voltages, check your fan current rating if this is a good enough division in current. If you are brave and/or skilled you can change the capacitors to get a more suitable current value.
Be aware that not all fans will support setting the speed through current limiting.

Smart home integration

I use Google home, to add any Sonoff device to Google home, just add them to the eWeLink app first. Then press the (+) in Google home, "set up device", then "have something already setup?", now search for "Smart We Link" and insert your credentials from the eWeLink app. If you already added "Smart We Link" to your Google home, just say "Hey Google sync devices".

Custom firmware

The IFan03 is supported by Tasmota.

Conclusion

I like the unit for its simplicity. The RF remote makes it user friendly because you are not bound by only an app or voice command. It also enables to control this when your internet is down. One thing I missed is that it will not dim the lights, only switching on and off. Looking at just the fan control I think it will be worth the investment, switching the light is just a bonus to me. It might be nice if Sonoff will have an option to choose if you only have the fan connected that the light switch will not be shown in the app. For now it looks like it is specifically built for the ceiling fans with lights built into them.
